XuanNiao R1 Commercial Solar Farm Mower: 31″ (79cm) Cutting Width, All-Electric Zero Emissions, No-Go Zone Avoidance, Hot-Swappable Battery for Continuous Operation.

We recently toured several large-scale solar power plants, and we found that the one thing site managers fear hearing most is not “power generation is down,” but rather—”the weeds have grown back.”

It sounds minor, but when those weeds grow tall, they create major problems:

  • Shading: They cover the lower edge of the solar panels, inducing hot spots and reducing power output.
  • Infrastructure Interference: Weeds entangle mounting structures, obscure cable trenches, and block inspection pathways.
  • Fire Hazards: In autumn and winter, dry, overgrown vegetation becomes a significant fire risk when exposed to electrical sparks.

The Old Ways Are Failing

Site managers have traditionally relied on three flawed solutions:

❌ Manual Weeding
Workers manually operate brush cutters while navigating complex solar arrays. This is slow, inefficient, and extremely dangerous. Sending personnel into high-voltage zones, near cable trenches, and combiner boxes puts safety at risk for the sake of clearing vegetation.

❌ Chemical Herbicides
While fast, chemical sprays can drift onto panels, racking, and cables. This risks corroding glass coatings and metal components. Furthermore, contaminating the soil contradicts the core mission of “green energy.”

❌ Neglect (Doing Nothing)
When weeds grow unchecked, they shade the lower edges of panels. This creates localized shading → hot spots → power degradation → equipment aging. Generation drops quietly, and fire risks rise quietly.

Solar Weeding Requires a Smarter Approach

It wasn’t until we saw the XuanNiao R1 navigating the rows that we realized this was the correct approach.

Developed by Suzhou Xinzuobiao Intelligent Equipment Co.,Ltd (hereinafter referred to as Xinzuobiao Intelligence), the XuanNiao R1 is not simply an enlarged consumer mower; it is purpose-built for the unique challenges of solar farm environments.

Designed for Utility-Scale Efficiency

31-Inch (79cm) Cutting Width: Efficient Row Navigation
Small mowers waste time “zigzagging” excessively in the wide alleys between solar arrays. The XuanNiao R1 features a 31-inch cutting width. It mows in efficient back-and-forth patterns (bow-tie or loop), achieving full coverage of main pathways in fewer passes, reducing turnaround, minimizing grass flattening, and conserving battery life.

All-Electric Drive: Zero Risk to Panels and Racking
Eliminate exhaust fumes, oil spills, and fuel leaks. The all-electric XuanNiao R1 operates quietly among the arrays. Inspection personnel can work nearby without the deafening roar of combustion engines—it is safer for the modules, the racking, and the personnel.

Intelligent “Sense of Propriety”: Precision Mowing
Using the mobile App, operators set No-Go Zones. The robot autonomously avoids cables, mounting piles, combiner boxes, and inverters. It will not collide with racking, damage cables, or cut too close to equipment bases.

The cutting height is adjustable from 0.8 to 4 inches (2–10cm), keeping vegetation trimmed below the lower edge of the panels.

Optimized for Fleet Management

Manage Multiple Machines with One Operator
The XuanNiao R1 supports remote management via mobile App. You can designate zones, monitor progress, receive alerts, and check battery levels without having to enter the solar array.

A single operator can manage multiple units.

  • For flat, centralized plants, assign different zones to different robots.
  • For mountainous terrain, group units according to slopes.
  • For agrivoltaic (farming/solar) sites, specific “No-Go Zones” can be set around crops.

Hot-Swappable Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Batteries
When the battery is low, simply swap it for a fully charged one and keep working. This is significantly more efficient for large-scale, continuous operations than waiting for a robot to return to a charging station.

Robust Performance, Gentle Execution

The XuanNiao R1 is built on a foundation of industrial-grade technology:

  • NAV-L3 Autonomous Navigation
  • GNSS-RTK Centimeter-Level Positioning
  • Four-Wheel Differential Zero-Radius Steering
  • 31-inch (79cm) Cutting Width
  • 0.8–4 inch (2–10cm) Adjustable Cutting Height
  • 20° (36%) Slope Climbing Capability
  • All-Electric, Low Noise
  • No-Go Zone Management
  • Multi-Machine Collaboration

However, what truly allows site managers to breathe a sigh of relief is not the spec sheet, but its field-proven “sense of propriety”:

Which Type of Site Do You Manage?

  • Flat, Centralized Plant? The large alleys and wide areas are perfect for the XuanNiao R1’s efficient, linear mowing pattern.
  • Mountainous Solar Farm? Steep slopes and dense mounting piles demand the precision of No-Go Zone management and zero-radius turning.
  • Agrivoltaic / Fishery-Solar Complementary? Chemical herbicides are banned. Physical, all-electric mowing combined with short-grass soil protection meets strict environmental requirements.
  • Distributed Rooftop / Carport Solar? Narrow aisles and high equipment density require superior edge-trimming and obstacle avoidance capabilities rather than pure speed.
